Navy Secretary Gordon England repeated his call Tuesday for a single shipyard to build destroyers, again raising concerns about the prospect of a reduced workload at Bath Iron Works. During a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing in Washington to consider his nomination to be deputy secretary of defense, England said the Navy expects to save $300 million per ship by building at a single yard rather than splitting the work between two yards.
