A three-year, $1 million grant from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security has been secured by the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo. The money will be used to develop and implement statewide standards for maritime security training, including drills and exercises for vessels, port facilities, harbors and maritime companies. Many observers have said the nation’s ports and waterborne commerce are still highly vulnerable to possible sabotage.
