John Kostecki grew up in Marin and has many ties to the Bay Area. Kostecki was a key player for BMW Oracle Racing, the San Francisco based challenge to the 2007 America’s Cup, until he was sidelined by a short press release last week. The release said that Kostecki, who was the team’s sailing director and tactician during the Acts regattas last month, remains with the team as a consultant who will sail with the team occasionally. Kostecki, a former Marin resident who moved to Reno last year, is no longer based in Valencia, Spain, with the rest of the team.
