Hurricane Wilma destroyed or damaged most of the hotels and swept away virtually all of the beach sand in Cancun, Mexico, in October, but the recovery is nearing completion, at least as far as the average tourist is concerned. Two-thirds of the hotels have reopened and the beach is back, ahead of schedule thanks to favorable weather and round-the-clock efforts by the Belgian dredging company that is doing the job.
