Keppel Corporation, the world’s top offshore oil rig maker, is upgrading two yards – one in China, the other in the Philippines – to build oil rigs in order to profit from an expected surge in China’s demand for oil exploration equipment. Keppel’s yard in Nantong, China, is expected to start taking in oil rigs by 2007, while the Philippines yard would be ready soon to build parts of rigs, a senior Keppel executive said in an interview on Tuesday.
