Northrop Grumman reported Tuesday that its first quarter profits fell 12.5 percent, as the Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath led to reduced shipbuilding sales in the company’s Gulf Coast operations. The company, the country’s third largest defense contractor, reported net income of $358 million for the three months that ended March 31, down from $409 million in profits for the same quarter in 2005.
