Keppel Corp, the world’s top builder of offshore oil rigs, on Thursday posted an 18 per cent rise in first quarter net profit as a boom in new rig orders fuelled by high oil prices filled its order books. With about 40 per cent of the offshore rigs under construction around the world being built in its yards, Keppel earned $170 million (US$107 million) in the quarter to end-March, compared with $144 million in the year-ago period.
