The commercial fishing industry is examining a coroner’s recommendations for increased safety measures on vessels. The coroner has found Kenneth Heathcote, the skipper of the Trade Winds, died from accidental drowning after the vessel capsized in big seas off Crowdy Head in May 2004. The coroner also recommended making personal locating beacons and inflatable jackets mandatory for fishermen, as well as improving winching equipment on vessels.
