A fire on board a ship with 708 passengers on board in the English Channel near Beachy Head has been extinguished, a coastguard has said. The blaze on board the Calypso was tackled by East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service. A six-strong fire team for the Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) has now been helicoptered on to the vessel. It will investigate and a decision will be made on whether to evacuate the ship.
