BEAUFORT, N.C. An underwater archaeology firm has permission to search for a gold-and-silver-laden treasure ship believed to be sunk off the North Carolina coast. Aqua Gems of the Treasure Coast has received a permit to look for the El Salvador in the Cape Lookout area and collect artifact samples. But other people have been looking for it as well and they haven’t found anything. Phil Masters of Intersal says the El Salvador would be one of the richest shipwrecks found along the U-S coast. It’s believed to be holding an estimated 124 (m) million dollars in gold and silver.
