VOR: It’s not usually like this

Almost three days out and the fleet has covered only a little more than 200 nautical miles under light fluky winds. Looking ahead, conditions are not expected to change much as the fleet heads northwest past Fastnet Rock under the influence of a large area of high pressure. So far this leg, the conditions have been very different from those experienced on the trip across the Atlantic. While there has been none of the crashing upwind or physical challenges of the heavy air sailing, the relatively calm seas, strong currents, light air, and sun, are by no means a walk in the park. If heavy air sailing is scary because things break, then light air sailing is frustrating because without wind you are powerless.
