A massive discovery of natural gas in the South China Sea is just the start of Husky Energy Inc.’s offshore exploration ambitions in the region — but first the company will have to secure drilling rigs. The company said late Wednesday it has discovered a large reservoir of natural gas in the deep water of the South China Sea, with a recoverable volume of between four trillion and six trillion cubic feet. That is the biggest discovery of natural gas in Husky’s history, and once production starts, it will turn into the first deep-water offshore well for China.
