After the first full night of racing the fleet is starting to show a north/south spread. The shortest route would be to aim for just south of Cape Race at the south eastern tip of Newfoundland and then sail a great circle course directly for the Western Approaches and Jersey. This is not necessarily the quickest route, however. The fleet will probably choose to sail over the Grand banks, a relatively shallow (100-150m depth) bank south of Newfoundland.
