Federal officials now say the dredging of PCBs from the upper Hudson River won’t begin until 2008.
According to a news release from the Environmental Protection Agency’s Manhattan office, the EPA agrees with General Electric’s contention that dredging can’t start next year because of the construction timetable for a riverside sediment processing facility.
EPA officials say moving the start of the project into 2008 is “unavoidable.”
The agency says it remains hopeful that GE will begin site preparation work along the upper Hudson this fall.
