The Ministry of Defence took delivery yesterday of the third of a four-strong class of naval landing ships built at Govan to support British military operations worldwide. The 16,000-tonne Cardigan Bay will join its Royal Fleet Auxiliary sisters Mounts Bay and Largs Bay after completing sea trials. The fourth vessel, Lyme Bay is to be completed at BAE Systems Govan after her transfer to the Clyde from the Swan Hunter yard on Tyneside because of design problems and cost overruns.
