Colonna’s Shipyard in Norfolk won a $995,000 contract Thursday to repair and spruce up the Savannah, a famous maritime relic and a national historic landmark, anchored for years in the James River Reserve Fleet.
The sleek white behemoth, launched in 1962 as the world’s first nuclear-powered cargo and passenger ship, will be towed to Colonna’s on Aug. 15 for much-needed maintenance.
