Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said he supports the ongoing study of a US$1.2 billion deep-water port in northern Quang Ninh province while touring industrial sites in the province Sunday. Dung said during his visit that Quang Ninh should develop a system of deep water ports, industry, urbanization and services as the northern ports of Hai Phong and Cai Lan are already operating at capacity.
The new deep-water port system is planned to be located at hon Mieu (Mieu Island) in Hai Ha district, as the site provides excellent shelter, and has a mean water depth of about 20 meters.
