The geo-technical work is taking place now, and should be finalized by early fall so construction can start later this year.
Over the next year, even more changes are forthcoming. Two new Super Post-Panamax cranes will be installed.
They will give the container terminal the capacity to handle the new generations of ships that are still in the design phase. Post-Panamax ships in the 10,000 TEU range are on the drawing board and being able to handle the big ships is crucial. For reference, the OOCL Post-Panamax ships that now sail to Halifax are at roughly 5,700 TEU.
