L-3 Communications Holdings Inc., which provides satellite, marine and avionics communications systems, said Tuesday it received two contracts with the U.S. Navy for $39.4 million to extend service on five ships.

The service life extension program has a maximum contract value of $94 million and extends service by 10 years to 30 years.

The extension program includes hull repair and refurbishment; main engine upgrades; installation of a new skirt system and upgrades to the communications and navigation systems.
