Many of the marine industry companies in the Turku region in the southwest of Finland want to alleviate their labour shortage by hiring migrant workers. In order to invite new workers to the field, a recruitment meeting was organised in Helsinki on Tuesday.
In the Turku region, there are already hundreds of unfilled posts for painters, welders, and skilled fitters and mechanics. Until now, the marine industry has failed to fully utilise the know-how of Finland’s immigrants, a spokesman for one of the organisers of Tuesday’s meeting, the Turku employment exchange office, points out.
