The U.S. Coast Guard has finished its investigation and identified the cargo ship which fouled the Savannah River with some 22,000 gallons fuel in July.
But Cmdr. David Murk of Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit in Savannah, Ga., would not release the name of the ship or shipping line until a hearing officer decides the case.
Murk said the investigation findings will be turned over to an officer in Norfolk, Va.
“Until we can actually prove that the ship we’ve identified is responsible, or until the case is ruled in our favor from the enforcement side, we don’t like to put the name of the vessel or the company out there,” Murk said.
