Town officials are scrambling to capitalize on a chance to dredge Greenwich Harbor for the first time in nearly four decades.
The murky harbor beside Grass Island hasn’t been cleared of sand and silt since 1968. An application nearing approval could lead to dredging by mid-October, said Susan Jacobson, an analyst with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. If approved, the town would have three years to complete dredging the harbor. But unless the town moves quickly, it could be months or even years before dredging can take place.
