A.P. Moeller’s giant container ship Emma Maersk is on its way to the Far East. It is the longest ship trading in the world today.
At 396 metres, it is only exceeded in length by the floating production and storage vessel Knock Nevis which sits off Qatar, permanently in the same spot, dispensing crude oil to export tankers.
Emma Maersk can load somewhere in the region of 13,500 containers and sails at a speed approaching 24 knots. There is a number of sister ships under construction, believed to take the total to eight ships, dedicated to the Europe/ Far East route.
