The 108-foot fishing vessel Sunlight, owned by O’Hara Corporation of Rockland, is en route to a boatyard in Rhode Island Friday after the ship collided late Wednesday night with an oil tanker about 20 miles southeast of Portland Head Light. According to Lt. Connie Braesch of U.S. Coast Guard Group Portland, the Sunlight collided with the 891-foot double-hulled oil tanker Erik Spirit as the two ships were traveling in the northern outbound shipping lane.
Braesch said the Coast Guard had few details about the collision, which is currently under investigation.
