The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is facing a $20 million shortfall in its budget for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, but the loss won’t affect current employment levels, a spokesman for the shipyard said.

Deborah White, public affairs officer at the shipyard, said the U.S. Navy will find the means if necessary to fund the shipyard’s efforts if the shortfall ends up compromising the workers ability to complete their tasks.

White said, “in order to execute priorities for the global war on terrorism, the Navy continues to manage and adjust its resources across the enterprise.”
