Marigot Marina Fort Louis has offered free docking for participating yachts on Friday afternoon and overnight during the St. Maarten-St. Martin Classic Yacht Regatta taking place the third week-end of January 2007. Space for the classics will however be limited due to the high season and long term dock arrangements.

To date some 15 classic yachts have registered for the regatta. The organization’s marketing director is still in the South of France at the moment promoting the event at Monaco and Les Voiles de St. Tropez.

The 150 berth Marina Fort Louis has recently been upgraded with a second “sea wall” in order to protect the docks and yachts better from the swells. Visiting yachts are now barely moving in the marina, even when huge waves are visible outside Marigot. The upcoming mega yacht season looks very promising according to Etienne Taquin, the “Capitaine du Port” with many dock spaces already reserved. Marina Fort Louis has direct access to the sea, where yachts at Dutch side marinas like Ile De Sol or Princess Port De Plaisance need to deal with the Simpson Bay bridge.
