A 72-year-old fisherman had his right leg amputated and suffered a heart attack after his aluminium dinghy collided with a ferry, throwing him and his son into busy waters in the shadow of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The two men had been fishing off Luna Park – a spot considered dangerous for small craft because of the high volume of passing ships and ferries, according to police.
