Ship Ruptures Oil Pipeline In Rotterdam Port During Storm

A container ship broke from its moorings during the storm that hit the Netherlands Thursday, rupturing a pipeline to the oil terminal and causing a severe oil spill, port authorities said. The Claudel broke loose shortly after midday and rammed a quay belonging to the Maasvlakte Oil Terminal (MOT).

A container ship broke from its moorings during the storm that hit the Netherlands Thursday, rupturing a pipeline to the oil terminal and causing a severe oil spill, port authorities said.

The Claudel broke loose shortly after midday and rammed a quay belonging to the Maasvlakte Oil Terminal (MOT). Some 1,600 cubic metres of oil flowed into the harbour.
