The lead passed from one team to the other, and then back again, and back yet again as mistakes were made in weather calls, on tactical decisions, and in boat handling. But for all that, the race will be remembered as among the most exciting in living memory. It also served as a stark reminder to each team that no lead is safe when the opponent is so strong.
