John Kostecki has resigned his position as lead skipper of Ericsson’s two-boat campaign for the 2008-09 race.
Kostecki had been charged with spearheading Ericsson’s challenge for overall honours, the team having failed to live up to expectations in 2005-06. The second boat, with an all-Nordic crew, is skippered by Sweden’s Anders Lewander.
According to Ericsson Racing Team Managing Director, Richard Brisius, Kostecki’s departure, while unexpected, will not unduly derail the programme.
Brisius added that the process of finding a successor to Kostecki is underway. He said: “I would like to thank John for what he has done for the team up until now and wish him the best of luck. We currently have a big team of 50-60 people with a lot of talent working on the project. We must ensure that we choose a skipper who can come in and make the best possible use of that talent and the resources we have available.
