THE MIDDLE SEA RACE 1968. Jimmy White and I met in late ’67 in the Landfall Club – a small bar frequented by sailing people opposite the Sliema yacht marina. We both wore a RORC tie. It was the beginning of a wonderful friendship as Jimmy was early retired to Malta with his beautiful Frans Maas 36′ sloop Sandettie and I was a newly-arrived civil servant on a 3-year tour wondering how to get some offshore racing.
