There was good news for many locals in attendance at last week’s Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) meeting.
Regional Parks Director Tom Potter brought great news, as he presented a dredging plan for Lake Gregory. He said they are going forward with a plan for dredging, and are currently waiting for the permits to get the project going. He noted they have been working on getting the permits for a year-and-a-half, and estimates the permits may be received in August. After receiving the permits, they will put out a request for bids on the dredging.
“We heard what people had to say at last month’s MAC meeting, and have come up with a plan to go full forward in getting the permits to mechanically dredge the lake,” Potter announced. “The only things we’re waiting on now are the final consultation with the California Department of Fish and Game, the consultation with the Regional Water Quality Control Board and the last one is a consultation with the Army Corp of Engineers. We have pretty much everything else done and figured out.”
Once the permits are received, they’ll be able to take a plan to the board for approval, Potter said. An evaluation of the lake has been done, and depending on the season the paperwork is completed and authorized, they’ll understand exactly what they’re dealing with.
“We want to get in there and fix it. Once the dredging is done,” Potter added, “we can do ongoing maintenance to keep up the lake. We’ve identified areas of the lake that need work, and we are working on a plan. Everything is set. Once we get the permits, we’ll be ready to roll out and get it done.”
