Statoil Hydro has completed drilling its North Sea exploration well on the Osberg South area with the 30/9-21A sidetrack well but results indicate that the hydrocarbon accumulation is non-commercial.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate today the 30/9-21A well in PL104 found hydrocarbons after targeting Upper Jurassic rocks and encountered thin oil zones. The well was drilled with the Transocean Winner semi-submersible.
“Log data suggests that it encountered small amounts of oil in thin sandstone strata of the Upper Jurassic age,” stated the NPD. “However, the ratio of reservoir rocks in the well was too low for commercialising the discovery.”
Statoil’s 30/9-21A well was the second sidetrack after the 30/9-21S well made a commercial discovery in Brent group rocks in a prospect area called Delta S2.
