Several news sources in the US report that the Port of Hueneme has received final approval from the California Coastal Commission for its plans to dredge the harbour.
Harbour Commission President Jess Herrera said the plan to bury the sediment made the most sense both financially and environmentally.
The plan will give ships in the port the navigation depths they require.
The clean-up plan was developed by the Oxnard Harbour District in conjunction with the US Navy and US Army Corps of Engineers, who plan to dredge the harbour and bury contaminated sediments below the seabed in a Confined Aquatic Disposal cell.
