British energy companies could more than double their national and international revenue towards US $400 Bn if they work to position themselves as leaders in the global energy market.
Samir Brikho, chief executive of global engineering and project management group Amec spelled out the upbeat future for UK firms if they work to enhance their international reputations and succeed in attracting investment and trade to boost both revenue and UK jobs.
Brikho, who is also head of the government’s UK Energy Excellence Group formed to promote the UK as an energy trade and investment centre, was speaking at the World Petroleum Congress in Madrid this week.
“The UK already has internationally renowned academic institutions engaged in ground-breaking research and development, as well as the ability to provide learning skills training across the entire energy spectrum,” Brikho told WPC delegates.
And he went on: “It is imperative that these resources are further developed for the benefit of the energy sector.”
If UK companies can build both domestic and international energy businesses then they have the opportunity to increase revenue from US $180 Bn today to $400 Bn by 2030, the Amec head suggested.
