ConocoPhillips Scandinavia has been given the green light to use the Maersk Gallant jackup to permanently plug two water injection wells on the Ekofisk field.
The rig will be used to permanently abandon the 2/4W-4 and W5 wells which have been used for water injection at the field.
Abandonment work – which is expected to take 100 days to complete – is due to commence once the rig has completed its current assignment on an exploration well designated 2/9-4 which was a dry hole and which was aiming to prove hydrocarbons after the Herje discovery in block 5603/28 in the Danish sector of the North Sea.
