BP’s big-spending plans for block 31 offshore Angola have meant a huge bonanza for the offshore contracting industry with Holland’s Heerema Marine Contractors and Subsea 7 announcing new deals as a result of the US $10 Bn West African investment.

Heerema said today it has landed its largest ever contract as a result of the Angola work with a deal to provide installation services for risers and production flowlines on the first phase of the project which will exploit the Plutao, Saturno Venus and Marte fields.

“This US $ 1 Bn contract – the largest contract in HMC’s history- covers engineering flowlines, service flow lines as well as vertical riser systems,” Heerema declared.

“The award is the first out of a framework of up to four potentially similar projects off the coast of Angola,” the company stated, and went on to indicate that its newly converted construction barge Balder will be assigned to the work.

Subsea 7 also confirmed today that its recently announced framework agreement with a major West African developer is in fact with BP for work offshore Angola, also related to the PSVM fields.

Subsea 7’s deal is worth US $460 m under its framework agreement and covers project management, engineering and installation for subsea infrastructure, including umbilicals, pipeline jumpers, flexible flowlines and structures, plus testing and pre-commissioning.
