BG Norway has had success drilling the Jordbaer (Strawberry) prospect offshore Norway which has tested a “significant” discovery.
Partner Revus Energy said the 34/3-1S operated by BG Norge in the PL373 S licence area northeast of the Snorre field tested with an average rate of 7,500 b/d and, according to Revus, significantly “…Increases the likelihood of additional discoveries in the area.”
The Jordbaer well was drilled on an extension of the Tampen Spur oil accumulation, in a Jurassic interval, and consists of two separate compartments Jordbaer Central and East and the 34/3-1S well targeted Jordbaer Central.
Harold Vabø, chief executive of Revus stated: “This discovery is very promising and of great importance to Revus.” And he went on: “It is too early to estimate how much has been discovered in this well bore, but we do believe that as a consequence of this discovery, there is a relatively high probability that this area could contain enough oil and gas to double Revus’ current reserves and contingent resources.”
After drilling the well with the Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible operating in a water depth of 400 m (1,312 ft), BG sidetracked the well to further delineate the discovery. The well has been drilled to a total vertical depth of 4057 m (13,306 ft) and completed in a Triassic Statfjord formation and has been plugged and abandoned.
Partners in the 373 S area – awarded in the APA round in 2005 are BG with 45%, Revus with 20%, Idemitsu 25% and RWE-Dea 10%.
Next the Dolphin rig is to move to PL338 and drill the Luno prospect.
