Norway’s Petroleum Directorate has given a green light to another StatoilHydro exploration well in PL 035 which is to be drilled 10 km (6.25 miles) northwest of the Frigg field area.

Approval for the 30/11-7 exploration well comes after StatoilHydro was granted

Permission yesterday for the 34/7-33 well in PL089 which is to be drilled by the Ocean Vanguard semi-submersible.

Statoil’s latest exploration well permit is for the West Alpha semi-sub and it will operate the drilling programme with 50% equity, partnered by DNO and Svenska Petroleum, which each have 25% equity in the licence area.

The NPD pointed out that PL035 was awarded back in 1969 and this will be the seventh exploration well in the block.
