Chichester Harbour Conservancy in the UK has issued a notice to mariners advising them that sea defence work will shortly be under way at Hayling Island.
1. Mariners are advised that work to nourish the Hayling Island seafront will start week commencing Monday 8 September 2008.
2. The material will be dredged from Box 351 to the east of the Isle of Wight and rainbowed onto the Hayling Island beachfront, as part of Havant Borough Council’s Beach Management Programme.
3. The work will be undertaken by the trailing suction hopper dredger, Sospan Dau (LOA 71m). Operations are expected to take three weeks, but may take longer if the weather is unsuitable.
4. The dredger’s approach route to the beachfront will commence north of West Pole Beacon and follow the route: 50º 45′.67 N 00º 56′.58 W 50º 46′.21 N 00º 57′.54 W 50º 46′.61 N 00º 57′.28 W
The dredger will then travel parallel with the beach to the discharge point.
The return journey to the dredge area will follow a reciprocal route.
5. The Emsworth Channel, north of Mill Rithe has been designated as an anchorage for Sospan Dau.
6. While Sospan Dau is within Chichester Harbour it will be limited in its ability to manoeuvre and other vessels should keep well clear.
