Van Oord’s new cutter suction dredger is an innovative, ‘green’ design. Dutch shipbuilder IHC Merwede has confirmed that Van Oord has commissioned the construction of a large self-propelled cutter suction dredger.
The new vessel will be one of the largest cutter suction dredgers in the world, will be built at IHC Dredgers in Kinderdijk and will be delivered in the autumn of 2011.
With a total installed power of some 24,000kW, the vessel will be equipped with two onboard dredge pumps and one submerged dredge pump on the cutter ladder. The maximum dredging depth will be 28m.
The new cutter suction dredger will have a length overall of approximately 130m and beam of 27.8m, and will provide accommodation for 44.
