Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit is supplying a complete suite of electronic navigation systems for a new megayacht being constructed in Italy.
The 142-foot (43-meter) motoryacht, which is being built for a private owner at the Baglietto Shipyard in La Spezia, will be equipped with a state-of-the-art integrated bridge system (IBS) based on Sperry Marine’s new-generation VisionMaster FT™ technology. The scope of supply will include X- and S-band radars, electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS), TotalWatch™ multi-function workstation, gyrocompass, autopilot, steering system and other navigation sensors.
Telemar Yachting, Sperry Marine’s authorized representative in Italy, will oversee the design, installation, integration and commissioning of the bridge systems.
“The Baglietto order is an important step in our program to bring the benefits of our big-ship VisionMaster FT technology to the megayacht sector,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president of Sperry Marine. “Working with the specialists at Telemar Yachting, we are looking to capture a greater share of the IBS market for megayacht builders, building on our position as a major supplier of gyrocompasses and autopilots for large pleasure yachts.”
The VisionMaster FT family of products was introduced by Sperry Marine last year to provide a highly integrated suite of navigation systems, improving situational awareness for bridge watch officers and enhancing safety at sea. The scalable suite of products includes marine radars, chart radars, ECDIS, machine automation and alarms, conning displays and TotalWatch multi-function workstations.
