The port of Dakar, Senegal, will launch a tender process to find a private operator for its newly built dry port before the end of June. The dry port, 2km inland from Dakar seaport, has been built by the port authority at a cost of CFA16bn (US$35m) to ease congestion at existing port facilities and in downtown Dakar.
“We have built the dry port but we’re not able to run it so will hand it over to the private sector and we will do it through a concession process,” a port authority official explained during a site tour on the sidelines of the recent Intermodal Africa conference in Dakar.
