The Oceangoing vessels division of Van der Velden Marine Systems will feature its latest developments at Nor-Shipping 2009 which will be held on 9 – 12 June 2009, in Oslo, Norway. The booth of Van der Velden is situated in Hall C at stand number C02-21. Highlights of its presentation will include the BARKE® rudder and the TIMON rudder.

BARKE® rudder One of the key products is the original BARKE® rudder, which ensures excellent manoeuvrability and course keeping qualities. An innovative and sophisticated high-lift design results in minimal wear on the linkage and reduces noise and vibration. These benefits are keenly appreciated and more than 1300 oceangoing vessels, varying from dredgers to multi-purpose vessels, have already installed the BARKE® rudder.

TIMON rudder This well known flap-type rudder has a slide-bar flap linkage. It is the perfect solution for excellent manoeuvrability. Thanks to the flap-type principle, the TIMON rudder has a high maximum lift that results in a first class manoeuvring performance. The simple slide-bar flap linkage is easy to maintain and construct, so this manoeuvrability comes at a competitive price. The slim profile design ensures that the drag is low.

Van der Velden COMMANDER® steering gear Available in ram-type and rotary vane versions, Van der Velden COMMANDER® steering gear systems are the product of advanced engineering at its best. The rotary vane steering gear includes a compact actuator inside a closed housing, with equal torque at all rudder angles. Inside the actuator is a fully integrated rudder carrier for rudder stock diameters of approx. 660 mm (depending on rudder angle). The smoothest possible rudder movement is assured. The ram-type steering gear, mounted on a single adjustable foundation plate, can be installed easily at shipyards. The plug and play solution is easy to maintain, has minimum wear and reduces heat and noise.

EPS™ thruster The revolutionary EPS™ thruster, which is available in a tunnel, retractable and azimuthing retractable version, represents a breakthrough in the fields of noise levels, low weight, space saving and comfort. These thrusters have been designed and manufactured to the highest possible quality and environmental standards. The simple construction and exchangeable blades provide easy maintenance. Use of high performance water lubricated bearings and high-tech materials further enhances the system’s reliability and strength.

Headway At the exhibition the latest issue of Van der Velden’s own magazine, Headway, is available. This magazine (number 6) is filled with interesting product information and projects in which Van der Velden Marine Systems participated.
