Police in Scotland are asking for an extra £250,000 of funding from the Scottish Parliament to cover extra costs incurred while dealing with a Super Puma helicopter crash in the North Sea back in April in which 16 people died. Grampian Police says overtime alone cost nearly £250,000 in the aftermath of the 1st April crash.
Colin McKerracher, chief constable of Grampian Police told Scottish Television: “ I think we accept that there’s a burden on us in terms of oil and gas liaison and the business we do in the North Sea and running royalty protection. But I think when something quite unexpected happens there’s precedent across the country for circumstances to go back to the government and say ‘help us out here’.”
