Grupo Unidos por el Canal, led by Spain’s Sacyr Vallehermoso construction company, became the virtual winner Wednesday of a $3 billion contract for the third set of locks for the Panama Canal.
Grupos Unidos, whose other members include Italy’s Impregilo, Belgium’s Jan De Nul Group and Panama’s Constructora Urbana, will get the contract if it meets certain additional requirements and the other two bidders do not challenge the process.
