Due to European Commission requirements to reduce fishing, Spain will lose 49 high-seas fishing vessels. Some 450 crew will lose their jobs. These vessels were all destined for scrapping. According to report by FIS, the Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA) said that among the vessels to be scrapped are 15 surface longliners, 16 hake and Norwegian lobster boats and six trawler freezer vessels.
