Oil services company Spectrum said it has started the fourth phase of its seismic programme in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
The statement comes after the USA announced its Gulf of Mexico lease proposals, which called for the exploration and development of new offshore areas including the resource-rich areas of the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

Phase four of Spectrum’s Wave seismic programme includes a key infill survey of over 12,000km, which is designed to generate a tighter grid for prospect level mapping.
A GGS Atlantic 2D seismic vessel is being used for the phase 4 acquisition.
The company expects this phase to be complete by July 2010.
The Gulf of Mexico contains 36-41.5 billion barrels of undiscovered, economically recoverable oil and 161-207 trillion cubic feet of natural gas resources, according to estimates by the US Department of the Interior Minerals Management Service.
