The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has given Dong E&P Norge AS (Dong) consent to carry out production drilling on the Trym field with the mobile drilling facility Maersk Giant.
The Trym gas/condensate discovery 3/7-4 was proven in 1990, and is located in the far south of the North Sea, just three kilometres from the border with Denmark.
The Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) for Trym was approved by the authorities in March 2010. According to the plan, the field will be developed with a subsea installation tied into the Harald facility on the Danish side of the border.
The consent covers drilling of production wells, and, according to Dong’s application for consent, the drilling activity has an expected duration of 216 days.
The wells have the following geographical coordinates
* 56 ° 22’ 54.7’ North
* 04 ° 14’ 15.0’ East
Water depth at the site is 65 metres.
Trym is part of production licence 147, where Dong is the operator. The company has an ownership interest of 50 per cent. The remaining 50 per cent belong to Bayerngas Norge AS.
The Mærsk Giant (pictured) is a jack-up mobile drilling facility owned and operated by the A. P. Møller-Mærsk Group. The facility was built at Hitachi, Japan and commissioned in 1986.
The Mærsk Giant can operate in water depths of up to 107 metres and has a capacity of 87 people.
The installation received an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) in February 2002.
