The Lord Provost of Aberdeen had champagne poured for him by ‘a robot’ when he visited Hallin Marine in Aberdeen today (Tuesday) to present the company with the Queen’s Award to Industry.
Without spilling a drop the robotic arm of one of the company’s remote operated vehicles, which normally work up to two miles below the sea surface, uncorked the bubbly and poured a glass.
The Lord Provost presented Hallin’s managing director, Mike Arnold, with the official Queen’s Award scroll, signed by Her Majesty, and a commemorative bowl.
The Lord Provost praised both the robot’s efforts and the staff he met as he toured the office and warehouse complex in Wellheads Place, Dyce: ‘There is an excellent morale and sense of enjoying their work amongst the people I’ve met today and this has clearly contributed to Hallin’s outstanding success,’ he said.
Hallin’s Mike Arnold thanked the Lord Provost for presenting the award on behalf of the Queen and said: ‘The award will have pride of place as it is a visual indication to all our hard-working staff of the success they have achieved!’
Hallin was granted the Queen’s Award for Enterprise after increasing its sales 14 fold in just three years, recording sales in excess of £22million despite only being formed in 2006 in Scotland.
The Queen’s Award judges described the company’s phenomenal increase as an ‘outstanding achievement,’ adding that it reflected ‘an effective marketing strategy based on establishing strong client relationships.’
